TOM SEAVER
When Tom Seaver won 25 games to lead the “Miracle Mets” to a pennant in 1969, he was dubbed “Tom Terrific” and credited with bringing respectability to a club that had been known as “lovable losers.” Seaver’s pitching attracted the attention of major league scouts at the University of Southern California. Signed by the Mets for a $50,000 bonus in 1966, Seaver was voted Rookie of the Year in 1967. He went on to become New York’s staff ace, winning the Cy Young Award in 1969, 1973 and 1975. In over 20 seasons with the Mets, Reds, White Sox and Red Sox, Tom Terrific won a total of 311 games and posted a spectacular .603 winning percentage.
